Ambit Business Review
Posted by Danny Boyd
Background:
Ambit Energy provides electricity and natural gas services in deregulated markets across the United States, primarily marketed through a direct sales channel of more than 150,000 Independent Consultants.
Ambit is based in Dallas, Texas and wants to build its brand as one of the most-respected retail energy provider in the industry, offering cost-effective choices for today’s energy consumer. In 2010, Ambit was named #1 Fastest-Growing Private Company in America by Inc. Magazine.
Products:
Ambit Energy currently sales electric and natural gas throughout Texas, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Washington, D.C.
Pros:
- As an Ambit Consultant, you save on your own energy bill each month
- There is no inventory or auto-ship products to worry about
- Voted #1 Fastest Growing Private Company in 2010
- Deregulated Energy has been hot since 2006!
Cons:
- At $429 to join, this is a bit high for a over saturated Energy and Natural Gas Market
- Not in all states, in fact only in 9… so your income potential is limited
- Most Ambit Energy reps are making little to no money at all in this highly competitive deregulated energy market
- Because the industry has been the hot thing since 2006, you will find that you’re competing against many other Ambit, Ignite and other Deregulated Gas MLM companies for the same customers.
- Lack of a true marketing or lead generation system… thus many use the dreaded Friends and Family approach.

Conclusion:
Ambit Energy was again voted the #1 fastest growing private company in 2010 and has tapped into one of the hottest niche markets since 2006! For those that got in early, this was a gold rush. However, this isn’t the case now. Ambit is not a terrible investment, but it’s not a great on either. $429 isn’t all that high of an entry point to buy a business, but it is high for a business that provides no profit to over 80% of its consultants. This, plus the fact that there is no proven marketing or lead generation system in place, makes Ambit Energy a roll of the dice. If you enjoy hosting Home Business Parties and selling, then you have a real chance here. For all others, you may want to explore other opportunities first.
